PUMA at TREC

Last night a large, adult, Puma, Puma concolor was observed walking down the street in front of Belize TREC.  It was seen by Elito Arceo from Seduced tours this morning crossing the street from the sea toward its apparent new home in the San Marcos area.  People from the Belize Forestry Department are on their way to San Pedro to attempt to tranquillize the cat and remove it to a more suitable habitat.  We know Pumas are present on the northern part of the island but it is rare for them to enter town.  We were wondering why the dogs had been barking so much.   If they don’t get it today we may leave some food out tonight and see if we get lucky!  Early reports identified it as a jaguar.
