The Ocean Acidification Program at Mote Marine Laboratory is currently
seeking interns for the Fall and Winter 2017 Terms.

*With a particular need for interns who can begin early August 2017*

FOCUS:
The effects of ocean pH and other variables, such as temperature and
nutrient concentrations, on marine organisms, with a recent focus on corals
and sponges.

Interns will learn about carbonate/ocean chemistry, animal physiology,
water quality, coral husbandry, and maintenance of an ocean acidification
water system, as well as the laboratory techniques required to collect,
preserve, and process water samples.

LOCATION:
Sarasota, Florida (3-4 interns) OR
Mote’s Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research and
Restoration in Summerland Key, Florida (3-4 interns)

REQUIREMENTS:

– A bachelor?s degree is preferred, but not required.

– College students with a general understanding of chemistry and/or lab
experience are preferred, but those with a willingness and motivation to
learn are also encouraged to apply.

– Although diving is not guaranteed, please include your certification
level and number of dives.

– The ability to work independently is extremely important for this
internship, though you will have guidance when needed.

In particular, we are also seeking at least one person with a computer
programming and image processing background, and at least one person with a
strong diving background, although diving opportunities may be rare.

INTERNSHIP HOURS:
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional long hours and weekends. Minimum
internship length is 10 weeks.

Please note, this is an unpaid internship (though there are scholarship
