The Ocean Acidification Program at Mote Marine Laboratory is currently
seeking interns for the Fall and Winter 2018 Terms.
*With a particular need for interns who can begin August /September*
FOCUS:
The Ocean Acidification Program focuses on characterizing the physiological
effects of changing ocean pH, as well as temperature and nutrient
concentration, on marine organisms found within coral reef and coastal
ecosystems. Current projects include competition and resilience studies at
the organism and community level.
Interns will learn techniques in measuring carbonate/ocean chemistry,
animal physiology, and water quality. Interns will gain experience in coral
husbandry and maintenance of an ocean acidification water system, as well
as the laboratory techniques required to collect, preserve, and process
water samples.
LOCATION:
Sarasota, Florida (3-4 interns) OR
Mote’s Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research and
Restoration in Summerland Key, Florida (4-6 interns)
REQUIREMENTS:
– A bachelor?s degree is preferred, but not required.
– College students with a general understanding of chemistry and/or lab
experience are preferred, but those with a willingness and motivation to
learn are also encouraged to apply.
– Although diving is not guaranteed, please include your certification
level and number of dives.
– The ability to work independently is extremely important for this
internship, though you will have guidance when needed.
INTERNSHIP HOURS:
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional long hours and weekends. Minimum
internship length is 10 weeks.

Please note, this is an unpaid internship (though there are scholarship
opportunities), and interns are responsible for their own housing and
